Definition of fast:  “to abstain from all or certain foods, as in observing a holy day or to eat very little nothing.”

What are some of the benefits of fasting?

2)      When a special need arises.  (Joel 2:14-15)

How should we fast?

We can say “no” to food, community, intimacy, talking, media, or anything else we enjoy so as to focus on connecting with God.

LESSONS FROM EASTER

Week 1 – Humble Remembrance

March 7, 2010

Let’s follow the example of Jesus by being a servant and being intentional about remembering His sacrifice for us.

John 13:1-17

Verses 6-9 show us the true love Peter had for Jesus.

Verse 12, Jesus asks the question, “Do you understand what I have done for you?”

Verse 17 tells us that to receive a blessing from God, we need to

become a humble servant.

Luke 22:14-20

Verse 15 shows us the great love Jesus had for His disciples.

Verse 19, Jesus said, “Do this in remembrance of Me.”

What do we need to remember about Jesus?

1. His Special love  John 15:13 Jesus said, “Greater love has no man than this, that He lay down His life for His friends.”

2. His sacrifice.  I Corinthians 11:24 says His body was

broken for us.

3. His salvation.    Verse 20 of our text tells us about a

new covenant”.
